Smallflower Willowherb (Epilobium parviflorum), is a herbaceous perennial plant in the Willowherb family (Onagraceae), native to the British Isles and parts of Europe, but today found in temperate climates all over the world. It reaches on average 30 – 80 cm (12–31in) in height. The stem is erect and densely covered with hairs, especially in the lower part. The leaves are opposite, unstalked, lanceolate and toothed, rounded at the base, 4 – 10 cm (1.5–4in) long. The tiny flowers are pale pink or pale purple, 6–7 millimetres (approx. 0.25in) in diameter, with four petals. Fruit is a three-to seven-centimeter long capsule containing very small black seeeds with white fibres that allow the dispersal by wind.

Bio-active ingredients of Smallflower Willowherb include flavanoids (glycosides mostly), myricetin, quercetin, kaempferol, tanning agents, ss-Sitosterol, various sitosterol esters, sitosterol-glycosides, gallic acid derivates and gallic tannins. Research is ongoing to identify the medicinal properties of the substances contained in this plant.
