Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis), aka Ground Apple or Whig Plant, is a perennial plant found in dry fields and native to Europe, North America and Argentina, is a member of the Daisy family (Asteraceae). Chamomile has white flowers and finely dissected, alternate leaves on procumbent stems, rising 20 – 30 cm (8-12in) above the ground.

Chamomile has disinfecting and anti-inflammatory properties ; it is used to soothe cramps and pain, and to treat disorders of the digestive tract. As a external application, it is also very effective for treatment of hemorrhoids and inflammations. It is a popular remedy to calm the nerves (sometimes cmbined with Angelica) and to treat migraine (often in combination with Feverfew, Tanacetum parthenium, or White Willow, Salix alba).

History: Hieronymus Bock, a 16th century, german botanist, wrote :’’The Chamomile plant is the number one remedy for human use.’’ Its use in folk medicine to regulate nervous disorders is well documented.
