Heartsease (Viola tricolor), also known under many other names, e.g. Johnny Jump Up, Heart’s Delight, Tickle-My-Fancy or Wild Pansy, is a annual creeping plant in the Violets (Pansy) family (Violaceae), native to Europe, but today found widely in North America. Heartsease is not to be confused with the decorative Pansies in a well-kept garden, as these are without any medicinal benefits whatsoever.

Heartsease reaches at most 15 cm (6in) with purple, yellow or white flowers about 1.5 cm (1/2in) in diameter. The leaves are deeply cut into rounded lobes with the terminal one being considerably the largest.

Heartsease is effective in treatment of acne – especially in combination with Burdock (Arctium lappa) – and skin problems in general (eczema).

Bio-active substances include flavonglycoside, salicilic derivatives, saponin, rutin, tanning agents and violine ; they render Heartsease effective to stimulate metabolism, cleanse the blood, reduce pain or fever. Pediatrists report successful treatment of infantile eczema (scald head). Note: in such cases replace mother milk with almond or soy milk substitutes and ensure to only use whole foods, and mild bathing shampoos without any artificial ingredients (or use hydrophilic oils).

Dosage

Take 3-6 capsules daily, with plenty of water.
