Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) is a woody shrub in the Currant family (Grossulariaceae), native throughout the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere, which grows about 1.5 meters (3-5ft) tall. The aromatic leaves are alternating on the stem, often with three or five lobes.

Blackcurrant leaves are used to treat menopausal complications and rheumatism and to eliminate excessive uric acid and/or toxins. For patients suffering from joint disorders, Blackcurrant leaves can bring relief (a regime in combination with Devil’s Claw is recommended). Blackcurrant leaves are also a popular remedy for prevention of colds and for treatment of digestive disorders. They are also used as part of a weight loss program.

History: Blackfoot Indians used Blackcurrant root for the treatment of kidney diseases and menopausal problems. Cree Indians used the fruit as a fertility enhancer to assist women in becoming pregnant.
